As all small business owners understand the importance of projecting the right sort of professional image, it is essential to be able to run a company professionally and ensure that it remains successful. The concept of business performance management is not new but is gaining ground very rapidly in the past few years, since it has shown very positive results, especially when it comes to small organizations. While larger organizations have systems in place to cope with managing a business and monitoring its performance, smaller companies often don’t have the manpower or the time to do it themselves. So, when they hand it over to a professional to take care of it, the results are significantly better.

Another great comic strip from the folks at bLaugh.com. This one was quite old, but is one of the best ones they have. As usual they have manged to get to the depths of a blogger and come up with something both funny and mad. I just can’t get enough of their cartoons and hope they start publishing on a daily basis, so us bloggers can get our daily fix.

A lot of retailers do not offer their employees life insurance policies, but as more and more professionals are thinking of it as a viable option, many companies are sure to change the way they operate. Interestingly, more and more younger professionals are going in for life insurance policies these days, maybe due to the fact that the packages are getting better or just better marketing efforts on behalf of the insurance companies. No matter what, it is a much younger profile of people that are taking life insurance than ever before.

As consumers get more choosy about what they want to buy and where they want to spent their money, retailers have to be alert to their shifts and ensure that they are prepared to meet them. As online commerce takes off in a big way, especially for the holiday shopping, retailers need to be aware of how their customers shop and spend their money. Almost all high value itmes are researched online and then purchased, usually at a store, but increasingly via an online retailer and delivered to the store instead of their home, so as to not pay for any shipping costs. As retailers keep on adapting to changes in the way people shop, they will be able to stay on top of their game and win more customers.

Since we’ve been moving so often, we’ve got into a routine of sorts for our moves. The number one item on our list is to sort out our bank work and have our checking account ready to be used in our new location. No fun in finding that great place to move into, but not have access to your checking account, is there? Once you have your banking sorted out, it’s easy for everything else to fall into place.
Our move here was more complex than earlier ones, since it involved an international move and since we got rid of all our personal belongings and furniture, we need to have our checking account functional so we could buy things as soon as we rented an apartment. Things did work out quite well in the end, and we managed to move in and set up home rather quickly.

Ah, the sad truth of living on the Internet!
There seem to be tons of new comics especially for the internet and for bloggers, which makes it so much more interesting that just the regular comics. This one I got via email a while ago, and have been wanting to post here for quite some time.
I already have a couple of favorite comic sites that I go to for a good laugh everyday, bLaugh which has been around for a while and recently resurfaced after a two month break and a new site that I discovered a couple of weeks back called Being Five. Both sites are just superb and extremely with it.

With the way we approach technology these days, nothing seems to last very long and so the concept of going in for used cisco systems is gaining momentum. There was a time that these options were not even available, but now these are good ways to get started if you’re a new business. Using refurbished hardware from a company such as Cisco is a good option since it is known to be one of the most reliable systems available.

So, while I’m discussing social networks, how about one more. This time it’s Friendster, which is rapidly gaining in popularity and could even become one of the most popular of the social networking sites pretty soon. The site already has over 50 million members, so it is already got a huge fan base which continues to grow at a fast clip. What can you on Friendster? Well, pretty much anything you want to at any social networking service; make friends, keep in touch with friends and family, organize your interests and activities and connect to others with similar interests and so on. Friendster is very focused on keeping its site clean and free of abuse, so is one of the safer sites for kids to use. Interestingly, there are also lots of parents who are signing up with Friendster to keep track of their kids and take the concept of social networking to a new level.

More on the topic of social networking sites. I finally signed up for Facebook a couple of weeks back. I had been invited by several of old friends, but somehow never found the concept interesting at all. In fact, I wasn’t the least bit intrigued even. But somehow on my trip back home, I met up with an old friend who convinced me of the advantages of the site and what tilted it was that he said it was probably the opposite of Orkut. Voila! I was interested in signing up immediately.
When I signed up, I found several old school friends online along with some colleagues etc and all in all, it was a pretty good set up. The overal look and feel of the site is nice and clean, and not too complicated at all. So far so good. I haven’t made any changes to my page or profile as yet, but judging from how often my friends seem to be updating theirs I might have to get mine up to speed as well.

Social bookmarking is all the rage these days and if you want your blog rankings to rise, then it is simply a must to get involved. When I started to blog in 2004, I had no idea about page rankings, alexa rankings etc and couldn’t have cared less. I used to blog for myself and that was it. Unfortunately, now I do bother about rankings as it is somewhat of an indicator of how ‘worthy’ your blog is.
When you start to worry about page ranks, you start to write things to cater to those rankings and that’s when things start to not look so good in the world of blogging. So, you have to be sure of why you want to blog, is it just for yourself, so that you can write whatever you need to, share your knowledge with the world, or do you blog for some other reason.
For whatever reason you blog, it is important to make sure that you are following through on it so that your blog stays true to what it is about. Social bookmarking is what makes everything connect, and as bloggers being able to connect to others is one of the most valuable things one can do.
My personal preference has been to use Digg and Technorati so far, but I believe there are lots of other and newer social bookmarking sites now. Here’s a good list of the top 30 social bookmarking sites that are out there.
