Although the world has been facing an economic meltdown, the insurance market has by and large managed to be fine. One of the reasons for this is the large population of baby boomers in the US who all rely on medical insurance of some sort. Having a Medicare supplement insurance is a good way to handle the gap between what you can pay and what the insurance can cover. It’s also a great way to get some peace of mind, so you can sleep peacefully and not worry about how you will take care of those medical bills. Planning ahead is of course essential when it comes to all of these issues, so don’t waste any time and get going.

I’ve been away for so long that it seems a bit odd to be back to work and back to the old routine again. It’s great to be able to get away for a while, to have a change of pace, a change of scenery, gain a different perspective, but then it’s always nice to come back home to the old familiar ways. There is a nice comfort to doing the simple things the same way, something as simple as having a routine of drinking tea or coffee, making a special weekend breakfast and so on. It’s these little things that eventually become traditions and hold memories for all involved.

Since we travel quite often, I worry about the safety of our home while we’re away. I’ve always preferred to live in gated complexes that have some sort of security, although so many of them are so lax about it. I think some kind of an alarms system in place is a good option to secure one’s home and I know a couple of my neighbors do have them already, so it’s always nice to go for a tried and tested brand. I think I will visit their store for a demo and try it out myself to see if it’s the kind that will work for us. Be safe!

I’ve been gone for quite some time….the longest so far, but I’m back and looking forward to get back to the usual routine of working, blogging and so on. I find that a lot of people blogging seem to just lose steam after a while, and that has happened to me too….several times, and if one gives it a nice break, it’s always great to come back to it. I try to take a vacation away from all modern communication equipment each year…no cell phone, no internet, no television and it’s a great relief not to be “connected” just for a while. Try it out, I’m sure you’ll like it.

It’s getting to be a long hot summer already. It’s only June as yet, but it already seems like it’s going to be an endless summer. I can’t wait for November to come, so it becomes slightly cooler and more livable at least. I was out for a while yesterday afternoon, the worst time of the day, and came back to a bad headache that just didn’t want to go away. This heat just seems to sap all the energy out of me and I thought one would get used to it as one lived here for a while, but it really doesn’t get any better with time. In fact, it gets worse, as one gets impatient with it.

What is it about losing weight that makes people ready to try out so many different things. It’s no longer about just being healthy, but rather about looking good, a shift that most people are not able to distinguish between. Well, for some it’s the same thing but for others it’s heavily tilted (pun definitely intended) towards the latter. So the sale of diet pills and searches for the best diet pills possible are shooting up through the roof. I’m not preaching that one way is better than another, although I definitely have my own opinion on them, I just feel that it is important to get a fuller picture (oh dear, here I go again with another pun!) of the overall treatment and long term effects.

The number of times we have moved in the past 7 years has made me an expert packer and mover, not that I wasn’t good at all this before too. I find that having the right kind of shipping boxes makes it all so much easier. We usually get the bulk of our things packed by packers who take 3-7 days to deliver it to the next destination, but also get some other boxes to ship immediately, so we’re not just waiting for it all to arrive while we twiddle our thumbs! Packing and moving is a stressful time and the only way to make it less painful is to be organized or hand it all over to someone who can take charge for you and handle it all seamlessly.

Lately, I have really been enjoying taking photographs that involve architecture of some sort. All kinds of doors, walls and windows intrigue me and I love to notice how the light makes things dramatic in the simplest of settings. One could take a photograph of the same place but at different times to get very different results. Here is a shot of the courtyard at The Old Courtyard Hotel in Fort Kochi, where we had lunch last December.

I recently bought a laptop since it was time to replace the old one, but before I made the deciscion, I was seriously considering buying one of these desktops instead. The cost difference between laptops and desktops has reduced significantly, but the storage capacities are still quite different. Since I travel with my work, I opted for a laptop, but I think it makes sense to use them in combination….and connect them so that all the work is synced together and can be accessed from either on. I think next time I think of an upgrade that is what I’m going to do. It definitely seems like a good way to work.

With the number of baby boomers who are aging rising constantly, the need for a variety of medical and support services is on the rise. Things like disposable diapers, stairway chair lifts, sit down showers and so on are becoming widely used amongst them and gaining popularity. It remains to be seen how this industry will be affected by the recession though, since most baby boomers who have retired have a limited and fixed source of income, so spending on anything extra will automatically be cut out. It will also be interesting to note, how many baby boomers will put off retirement to prolong their earning power.
