backing up your work

Working on one’s own is really great, but it also means that you are completely responsible for taking care of all your data, including the most important thing to do that is, backing it up. I lost almost a month’s worth of work last year and since then try to be very consistent in backing up my data in a variety of places. One of the best ways to do this is to use an online backup service that back up all your data online and allows you access it from any place you want to. For someone who loves to travel, this is a real handy tool. The other great feature about online backup services is that they automatically back up your data on certain predetermined times, so you don’t need to remember to do it yourself, making it completely effortless.

Handling reviews professionally

Since I work from home, the subject of reviews and performance appraisals is tricky business. Consumers are increasingly working from home and it is important to get a 360 degree view of their work, professionalism and contribution to a job, instead of relying only on one person’s view. This is where a software like Manager Assistant comes in. The program lets you monitor, evaluate and control the performance and activities of your employees all by using a single system. Professional programs like these negate the need to juggle between spreadsheets, word files, email folders and database files ever again to keep track of employees. Although, there have been many earlier versions, the latest ones will offer a much wider variety of applications.

Using online back up services

As we rely more and more on computers and the working on the internet to do things that we used to earlier do in person or by hand, we underestimate the importance of keeping backups and physical copies of important documents. I learned the hard way, when my computer crashed last year and I lost about a month’s worth of work, and since I work from home it was not saved on the company’s backup system, and it was a lot of work gone down the drain. Since then I try to make sure I back up my work in a couple of different formats, online backups, pen drives and CD’s depending on what kind of work it is.

Besides losing my professional stuff, I also lost lots of personal photographs and audio files, which really was quite upsetting. Never again, I said, since this is a totally avoidable situation. Now I backup the bulk of my work on an online back up system and store some stuff on my pen drive as well. The Vegas Files offers online back up protection, with plans starting at just $25 a month. Check out some of the available sites online whee you can back up everything from documents, spreadsheets, photos, music and more and you’ll see just how simple it is to take care of this most important of tasks.

Have you got an online safe deposit box yet?

Another great thing to love about the internet is the way it has brought so many new options, of which online storage has to be one of the most innovative. KeepYouSafe is one such company that has created a change in the way we store our documents online as an Online Safe Deposit Box. Having crossed 10,000 online safe deposit boxes, the company announced that it will be doubling capacity to keep up with demand in its North America and European facilities. According to Eric Wolbrom, CEO of Information Survival, the promoter of KeepYouSafe, said that the company should not be confused with an online backup service but as a place that keeps your information safe and secure and in complete privacy.

I use online storage, don’t you?

The one thing everyone who works on a computer needs to know is that you need to always have your data backed up. Whether it is in dics or pen drives or online storage, back up is an essential part of using a computer. Online storage is relatively easy to get these days, the hard part is usually just finding the right company and once you’ve done that, it’s easy to back up your files and folders, using drag-n-drop saving, which makes everything so quick and transparent. Besides being perfect for small businesses, online storage solutions are a good idea for anyone who works at home and has to have lots of data stored. IBackup is one of the best online storage systems around and was even bagged the PCWorld and PCMag editor’s choice awards.

barcode scanners a must

For retailers large or small, installing a barcode scanner is one of the most important aspects of running a store. Without a barcode scanner, you will not be able to do an accurate inventory or order supplies. It is the backbone of a retail store and something that is non-negotiable. There are a variety of options available, so select one according to your budget and get it installed by a professional. As a retail analyst, I cannot understate the importance of these scanners.

online storage

For anyone working on a computer, it is essential to have backup facilities available. I work at home, so my computer has my work files as well as personal documents and photographs stored on it and I’m running out of space on pen drives and CDs just too quick. What I need is to backup my data in an online backup service who will store all my data and especially all my photographs which are currently taking up too much space. IDrive offers online backup for free with it’s basic plan where you can use up to 2 GB of space and for $4.95 a month for unlimited storage, and that’s where I’m going to park all my excess stuff. It’s a quick, simple, efficient and cheap way to store stuff.

computing options

I recently bought a laptop since it was time to replace the old one, but before I made the deciscion, I was seriously considering buying one of these desktops instead. The cost difference between laptops and desktops has reduced significantly, but the storage capacities are still quite different. Since I travel with my work, I opted for a laptop, but I think it makes sense to use them in combination….and connect them so that all the work is synced together and can be accessed from either on. I think next time I think of an upgrade that is what I’m going to do. It definitely seems like a good way to work.

Investing in pos systems

Many small merchants just do not see the need to switch to modern retail equipment, it seems. The benefits of having barcode scanners is so immense, yet many old-fashioned retailers feel that the system will be too complicated for them to handle themselves. It is true that a nominal amount of training would be required, but this far outweighs the benefits the store would get from installing such a system and keeping track of the inventory. Mismanagement of inventory is one of the places where a lot of managers and owners just take for granted, as it has been happening for a long time and will continue to happen, so why bother doing anything about it. There is, however, a huge difference, in sales, in shrinkage, in profits and long-term sustainability.
