As better weather approaches, we are looking forward to spending more time outdoors, to get back to exploring the city and the country we live in and to enjoy some al fresco meals. Winters are a wonderful time here, with warm sunny days, which sometimes have a chilly breeze and cool nights. It is the beat time of the year and we look forward to these few months.

Nothing like my morning walk to get me going and feeling energetic all day long. I don’t really mind waking up early, since I have a good incentive of finding sights like this on my walk and come back feeling refreshed and with a sense of accomplishment, however small that may be! I took this shot recently and it’s one of my favorites already, thanks to the way the light is falling on the wall.

The only time of the year it is possible to explore the country are the winter months…anytime between December and February are the ideal times to travel and explore the area. This was on one of our trips last winter to Fujairah, one of the smaller emirates that make up the UAE. This was the recently restored Fujairah Fort which is about 350 years old. It’s a cute little fort, not much to see in there, just one small central courtyard and tiny turrets, but it was interesting nevertheless.

There’s something so magical about traveling, about seeing new places, about expanding one’s horizons. And for me ever since I got into photography, I love to spend time taking photographs on my trips, to document the places we visit, to make memories, to make things stand out from the rest and to be creative.
Here’s a shot that I took in Mussoorie in Uttrakhand last September.

A little photo from my home. I love taking these simple shots at home, as a kind of visual diary, a way to look back and remember what I was doing, what I was reading, what I was baking and where I was traveling at the time. In a way it’s more satisfying than even blogging as the feedback is greater and more direct.
Enjoy!

I love taking photographs, and travel photos are a great way to remember the beauty and essence of the trip. I try to capture the good side of the place, rather than just a realistic view that might include too many people or litter and stuff like that. I mean, why bother capturing things like that anyway. It’s better to keep a nicer and more positive view of the trip and remember just the good things. This shot was taken on the helipad in Charabara, near Kufri, and while it looks peaceful and idyllic, it was crowded and somewhat dirty, full of tourist vehicles and vendors selling odd stuff like stuffed toys and caps. Why o why would people come to such a beautiful spot and then ignore the beauty to buy cheap trinkets that could be bought anywhere at all.

Since I’m writing about the joys of summer, such as fun summer sandals in my last post, I thought I’d post a nice summery pic. When I think of summer, I think of sitting outdoors, especially eating outdoors. I love how little cafe’s everywhere open up and put out chairs and tables outside on the pavement and even the most boring of places can get a fun vibe.

Isn’t it wonderful to be able to take a photograph and hold on to that memory long after one has forgotten what it was actually like! I think it is, and really like taking shots to make a photo journal of sorts, a story of my trip, keeping the good memories and views and deleting the bad ones. So simple right!
This is a shot that I took at the entrance of the Amateur Dramatic Society or The Green Room in Simla in India. The new entrance is from the Ridge itself, instead of the upper mall as it was earlier.

Odd as it is, I love waking up early when I am on vacation, as I don’t want to miss out on anything. The early morning light is always fantastic and it’s a great time to get some photographs as well, especially ones like these which are only possible early in the morning. I really relish my quiet and alone time in the mornings, whether I am at home or on vacation. This shot was taken on a morning walk in Mashobra in Himachal in India.

Lately, I have really been enjoying taking photographs that involve architecture of some sort. All kinds of doors, walls and windows intrigue me and I love to notice how the light makes things dramatic in the simplest of settings. One could take a photograph of the same place but at different times to get very different results. Here is a shot of the courtyard at The Old Courtyard Hotel in Fort Kochi, where we had lunch last December.
